SNA of Mass

Professional Development

SNA of Mass offers various programs throughout the year that provide CEUs for our members and event attendees including our Winter USDA Conference and the Fall Conference. We are passionate about providing the Massachusetts school nutrition community with ample opportunities for connecting, learning and growing – both personally and professionally. We aim to create interesting, valuable content to our members through webinars, chapter meetings, conferences and other programs. In conjunction with the School Nutrition Association (SNA) we are able to offer our members access to certificates and credentials.

Certificate & Credentialing Through SNA

Certificate Program

Getting your Certificate in School Nutrition from SNA shows your commitment to your profession. SNA’s Certificate program aligns with USDA Professional Standards, making it easier for you to keep up with the requirements.

Earning Your Certificate in School Nutrition will:

  • Provide a career ladder you can use to advance in the field
  • Add credibility to your position and to your school’s program
  • Enhance your professional image with supervisors, parents, and administrators
  • Help you stay current on the latest issues and solutions related to your job

Credentialing

SNA established the School Nutrition Specialist (SNS) Credentialing Program in 1997 to enhance the professional image of school nutrition professionals, elevate professional standards and enhance individual performance. The SNS Credential is a mark of excellence and achievement that reflects what it takes to manage school nutrition programs in today’s challenging climate. The SNS Credentialing Exam evaluates candidates’ knowledge and skills required to perform specific job activities related to managing or directing school nutrition programs.

Benefits of the SNS Credential include:

  • Formal recognition of professional achievement at a national level
  • Professional recognition from subordinates, peers and superiors
  • Increased ability to manage a complex food service operation
  • Demonstrated commitment to the school nutrition profession
  • Enhanced career opportunities
  • Elevated self-esteem and pride in one’s work
  • Improved credibility with school district administrators and the general public

The Monya Gellar Scholarship application opens in February each year and the winner is announced by June 1st.

SNA of Mass ANC First-Timers Grant

This grant covers registration, travel, hotel and meals for an individual to attend the SNA Annual National Conference. This is a great opportunity offered for first time attendees to attend an ANC held outside of Massachusetts and is open to all members: food service employees, managers or directors. This conference is an exciting and educational experience which allows School Nutrition Professionals to come together to learn about the latest trends and happenings in our profession. There are dozens of educational sessions and a huge exhibit hall where you can see the newest products first-hand. You will be inspired by nationally known speakers and even have time to enjoy fun evening events or tour the local area. Perhaps the best feature of this conference is the incredible networking opportunities you can have with thousands of your peers from all over the country!

The application for the SNA of Mass ANC First-Timers Grant opens in the Spring and the winner is announced by the end of May.

SNA of Mass LAC First-Timers Grant

Consider bringing your expertise, your passion, and your stories to Washington, D.C., and prepare to shape and define national policy relating to school nutrition. This conference is an exciting and educational experience, which allows us as School Nutrition Professionals to educate congress about our national program and local needs. Involvement in the legislative process of our association brings amazing professional and personal growth and satisfaction. It allows us the opportunity to implement change at the highest possible level, mobilizing the house and senate to take action and care for the nation’s most precious commodity: our children.

The SNA of Mass LAC Scholarship application opens in late Fall with winners announced by the end of the year.

“I had the best experience at my first Legislative Action Conference. After working in the field for over 15 years, this was the first conference I attended where I felt like 100% of the people around me were on the same page. The members of Congress that we were able to connect with were open minded, welcoming, and eager to hear our stories. This was by far my most memorable experience as a School Nutrition Professional.”
